WORLD RADIOSPORT TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

HELSINKI, FINLAND, JULY.09-16. 2002

Southern California Contest Club
Mr. Will Angenent, President

Helsinki, May.07.2001

Dear Will:

Contest Club Finland and The Amateur Radio League of Finland have jointly
agreed to organize The WRTC-2002 in Finland with the help of the entire
Finnish ham population. All preparations are already underway and you can
follow the progress on WRTC-2002 web site.

To secure the highest level of competition – featuring top-notch operators
from all participating countries – we are introducing several complementary
team selection procedures to ensure the most objective and fair process
possible.

In the case of the United States, which will be sending the single largest
number of teams, we are employing a special pre-selection approach.
Specifically, we are asking each of the 13 largest contest clubs ( of which
you are one ) to provide the WRTC organizers with a list of ten operators
who you believe will make the best possible U.S.A. team captains. We seek a
geographical balance, so please prepare your list to name five operators who
reside in the ”USA East” ( i.e.. W1, W2, W3, W4, W8 and W9 ) area, and five
who reside in the ”USA West” ( i.e. W5, W6, KH6, W7, KL7 and W0 ) area. No
weighting factor will be applied to the list, so please simply arrange your
suggested callsigns in alphabetical order. Our Selection Committee will
combine your list with the lists we receive from the other clubs and use
that as a guide to extending the USA team captain invitations.

Each individual invited to be a USA team captain will be expected to lead a
two-person team in the 24-hour July, 2002 IARU HF World Championship
competition. We believe each person your club proposes as a team captain
should possess excellent combined cw & ssb skills, a good record of S & P,
and ability to manage all this within a European cultural setting. Each club
is absolutely free to determine its own methodology for compiling its list
of suggested team captains.

Let us emphasize that all team captains will be representing the entire
country of United States, so their individual club memberships haver no
significance as such. Each operator invited to become a team captain will be
free to choose his or her teammate from anywhere in the USA without
restriction.

To ensure that your club’s list of suggested team captains gets properly
considered, your list must reach the WRTC-2002 Organizing Committee no
later than June.15, 2001. Mail or email accepted.

( Postal address: WRTC-2002, P.O. Box 73, 02361 Espoo, FINLAND )

We kindly thank you for your cooperation in this issue.
