I added a Y to the External Speaker output on the back of the Mark V, however. I get audio on the left ear only (the Y and the headphones are stereo). 

I also get a very load hum even when the AF-Gain is all the way down.

I then thought why not plug the external speaker to the front (phones) on the A and the cans on the B. Well, that does work, but the audio is very low compared to what it is from the External speaker output.

Sounds like I need that magic box with the ability to amplify the audio for the external speaker but not for the headphones.
