[SCCC] SCCCORE March Edition Now Available

I was part of the Heathkit brigade as well. I had an HX-11 which was a DX-20 with a new designator (1963). And after I got my General, I added an HG-10 VFO. But my real "goodie" was an RME-6900 receiver! It was hot. And it had that weighted slide rule dial that just "felt" good when you spun the knob! I would probably still have that receiver if it had had General Coverage, i.e. to include the shortwave bands - like an HQ-180.

As a novice, I do remember working guys using an Adventurer or Challenger, but I think the most popular rigs in 1960 were the DX20, DX35, and DX40 transmitters by Heathkit. I remember after hearing 'TX is DX', I would always be guessing which numbers were going to follow. Of course, back then my novice code speed was slow enough that I had time to think between characters.

Finally, gave up and my mother agreed to pay for a Heathkit DX-60. Later added the companion Heathkit VFO when I upgraded to General.
