Checking the ARRL club rules for distance requirements

/Use of Six-Character Grid Locators//
//
//Locations will all be entered and displayed as six-character grid
locators, such as FN21aw or DM02ks. //*It will no longer be necessary to
determine latitude and longitude for members or a club circle
center.*////*The center of the locators will be used for calculating the
member's distance from the club center *//using a standard algorithm
that will also be public.  A member may reside and operate anywhere in a
six-digit locator that satisfies the distance rule.  If the grid locator
for a member is not known, "Distance Unavailable" (or words to that
effect) will be displayed on the list.  There are many online services
that provide a six-character grid locator from an address or latitude
and longitude.  The maximum circle distances are NOT changing./

It appears you have to use the center of grid squares *not *latitude and
longitude for members QTH to calculate distance. The ARRL has a distance
calculator - https://contest-clubs.arrl.org/griddistancecalc.php to
check this.

Using the proposed center of *EM83vk*

K2SX -  FM03kl      286.069 km / 177.75504 miles
K4BAI - EM72ml    277.817 km / 172.6275 miles
N4DU - EM71uo    282.325 km / 175.4286 miles

This would put both K2SX and N4DU barely out side of the circle. Plus I
forgot K4EA actually operates from his station in Chatooga County, not
his home QTH in Canton. We don't want to lose Neil.

Using the same ARRL calculator for our current club center at *33.35577,
-82.13733 *which is *EM83sf* :

K2SX -   FM03kl 310.838 km / 193.1458 miles
K4BAI - EM72ml 247.966 km / 154.0789 miles
N4DU - EM71uo 249.524 km / 155.04703 miles

This definitely puts K2SX outside our circle.  K4EA probably doesn't
realized it but with our current club center he's outside of the SECC
circle in Chatooga County. Because Neil's home QTH is listed on QRZ.com
in Canton, GA the ARRL doesn't know this and probably doesn't make an
effort to check things like this. But if Neil sells his house in Canton
and moves to Chatooga County we would need to adjust our circle.

BTW if you're interested in checking your distance go to

Sorry Dennis I tried....
