I don’t know where to start other than saying this was close to the grand daddy of 6 M E DX days. Started off slow around 9 but moved to full speed quickly. KX4R and I worked R6KA for a new one. Several Ukraine stations were in along with the R6 in EU Russia (Crimea). It lasted to around 11 local.. F, SV9, R6, UR, DK, 9A, PA, HA, HB9, G, I, IS0, OK, EA8.. N3XX worked HB0WR for a new one but I did not hear it. There could have been others I missed it got so busy. I ate lunch and decided to cut the yard and I finished up around 3 and was talking to KX4R when we saw stations in NC working LY and SM. Eventually by 3:45 they were in here and they stayed in until after 6 PM. Heard, OZ, LY, TF, SM, XP, G, 9A, HB9, PA, G, S5, LA, E7, most of these had several of them .. there were at least 3 or 4 LY. lots of SM, .. There were a few JA but my line noise was so bad could not copy them.. Around 9:30 local notice K6MIO in Hawaii coming in and he was in for maybe an hour at least. Strong sigs in the CQ WW contest on FT8.
On HF, the conditions were so good worked Z66X on 10 M FT8 using Fox /Hound mode at 5 PM local with a booming signal. 10 M was loaded up with signals but I went back to 6 M.
Don’t think there has been a better day on 6 M this season and normally by this time conditions are down but today was a surprise. It is 11 PM now and lots of west coast signals in here so there should be some good CQ WW scores. If you needed WAS this was a good chance to score.
On a side note, I am not sure why but several EM73 stations kept calling a lot of stations that were clearly calling CQ DX. I am not sure why. When the band is open DX wise you have to work all you can as conditions like this don’t happen every day. One EM73 station continued to call me over and over when I was clearly calling some DX stations. I am not sure why he could not see that.
Also please use ODD SEQ if you are going to call CQ up to 6 PM local anyway. Then EVEN if possible. I am not saying don’t use the opposite seq to call someone if needed but for CQ it makes things much nicer and way less QRM to use ODD in most of the day and evening to EVEN for CQ. Everyone runs their station as they wish so this is only a request.
Good hunting 73 Mike K4PI
