This Week's Contests:
I will be QRL in the RAC Contest next Thursday, so I will not get the
weekly report out on Thursday. In case I don't get it done on
Wednesday, I'll cover today through Friday of next week.
1. QRP Fox Hunt. First run of the Summer Series on 20M. 0100-0230Z
Friday (Thursday night local date). Two QRP Foxes (ND4K, Dave, GA and
N8SS, Earl, MI) will be calling between 14050 and 14070 kHz. 5W max
power. Exchange: RST, SPC, Name, Power. Foxes generally start off
listening up from their transmit frequency and sending "UP." Most will
go simplex after the pileup has died down. Exchange: RST, SPC, Name,
Power. Work only the two foxes and do not spot their frequencies. From
this area of the country, it will be difficult, but not necessarily
impossible, to hear and work Dave, ND4K, who is in Milledgeville, GA. If
we are lucky, N8SS might be easier.
2. NCCC RTTY Sprint. 0145-0215Z Friday (Thursday night local date).
15, 20, 40, 80, 160M RTTY. 100W max power. One/one kHz QSY rule.
Exchange: both calls, #, name, SPC. Look around 082 kHz and up from
1805 kHz on 160M. Same band dupes OK after one intervening QSO.
3. NCCC NS Sprint. 0230-0259Z Friday (Thursday night local date). 15,
20, 40, 80, 160M CW. 100W max power. One/one kHz QSY rule. Exchange:
both calls, #, name, SPC. Look around 040-046 kHz and up from 1815 kHz.
No same band dupes permitted. You might be surprised to find 15M open
at this time as well as most of the lower bands. This one is fun and
fast and furious and is a great way to practice for the North American
Sprint Contests.
4. K1USN Slow Speed Test (SST). 2000-2100Z Friday. 20, 40, 80, 160M.
Exchange: Name + SPC. Max speed 20 WPM. You can use your NAQP CW
contest module, but you will need to add multipliers for those worked
outside North America. This has become very popular, probably more so
on Sunday nights (see #8 below).
5. Ukrainian DX Digi Contest. 1200Z Sat to 1200Z Sun. 80-10M
RTTY, PSK63. Exchange: RST + QSO# or two-letter UR oblast.
6. His Majesty King of Spain Contest, SSB. 1200Z Sat to 1200Z Sun.
160-10M SSB. Exchange: RS + serial # or EA province. Work everyone.
7. ARRL Field Day. You can operate 24 hours from 1800Z Sat to 1800Z
Sun. If you start setting up in the field at or after 1800Z, you can
operate until 2100Z Sunday. Fact is, there will be almost no activity
after 1800Z. Any mode, all bands except WARC bands and 60M. Exchange:
Number of simultaneous transmitters plus a letter for category. The
letters are A (field station), B (field station no more than two ops/set
up people), C (mobiles), D (home stations on commercial power), E (home
stations on emergency power). F (Emergency operations centers). For
example, W4CVY will send 3A for three simultaneous xmtrs in the field on
emergency power. Again this year, home stations may show their club
name in the contest entry form and their score will be added to any
field station score. D and E stations may work each other for credit.
DX stations outside an ARRL section will send 1D DX. There will be a
lot of clubs and groups operating in this event and hope all of you will
find a way to participate. Some bonus points are now available for all
classes of entries (see rules).
8. K1USN Slow Speed Test (SST). 0000=0100Z Monday (Sunday night local
date). See # 4 above.
9. QCX Challenge. Monday. Three separate one-hour contests. 160-10M
CW. Exchange: RST, SPC, Name, Rig. More points for working QCX rigs.
1300Z Mon, 1900Z Mon, 0300Z Tues.
10. CWOps Club CWT Tests. Every Wed. Three separate one-hour tests.
1300Z, 1900Z, 0300Z (Thursday UTC date). 160-10M CW. Exchange: Name +
CWOps# or SPC. Look around 023 to 053 kHz and lower on 160M. This week
there will be a fourth hour, 0700-0800Z. This is sort of experimental
trying to find a time that other parts of the world can be QRV. Of
course, US can be QRV also if you don't mind missing sleep.
11. RAC Canada Day Contest. Thursday (UCT) of next week, July 1, 24
hours. 160-2M CW, Phone. Exchange: RS(T) + serial # or VE province or
territory. More points for working Canadian stations and only mults are
VE provinces or territories. This is Canadian Independence Day. This
contest can be a lot of fun.
12. Straight Key Century Club (SKCC) Sprint - Europe. 1900-2100Z next
Thursday. 160-6M CW. Use a mechanical key. Exchange: RST, SPC, name,
SKCC# or "NONE." You can work anyone in this contest, not just
Europeans. Most activity around here starts on 20M and moves down to 40M.
13. QRP Fox Hunt. See # 1 above. Schedules foxes are: AJ1DM, JOHN, RI
and W9CF, KEVIN, AZ. From here, we could have a decent shot at both foxes.
14. NCCC RTTY Sprint. See #2 above.
15. NCCC NS Sprint CW. See #3 above.
16. K1USN Slow Speed Test. See #4 above.
Hope everyone has a nice week and weekend and a lot of QSOs, especially
in ARRL FD and RAC. 73, John, K4BAI, For SECC.
