I run a dedicated 64 bit quad core with 8gb of ram for the skimmer server
here. I usually run it at 192khz doing 6hf bands and 6m... during contests
I usually turn off 6m, and have sometimes turned off dead bands to cut down
on overhead. it usually has enough left over for misc stuff like
monitoring weather radar or dxatlas grayline display. For a while I was
running ar-cluster v6 on it, but think it was occasionally slowing it down.

Subject: [Skimmertalk] CPU needs for skimmer server
Hello all,
I finaly decided myself for an active antenna from Clifton laboratories and
the results are great !
Noz I have a small issue with my computer ! I'm getting CPU limited. The
computer isn't that old (3 years ) but back then I bought an E5200 dual core
that now is usually at about 70% to 90% of use. As I use the computer also
for logging and web browsing I would like to give it a kick.
The Skimmer Server page mentions an I7 2600 : Is such a powerfull CPU really
needed if your antenna farm isn'l like the one from W3LPL, K3LR or K1TTT ?
:-)
One the last Japanse contest weekend I recorded about 5000 spots on the
Sunday. My skimmer doesn't seem to drop any callsign and it says that 100%
of the stations are decoded.
Any feedback is welcome before I run out and go buy a new CPU - motherboard
- memory bundle !.
