There's been some talk that the conveyor belt that drives the Gulf
Stream (from the Gulf of Mexico to the British Isles) might be
shutting down.  There is only little evidence of that, but it has
people concerned.  The Gulf Stream is largely responsible for your
more moderate temperatures up there in England, whose latitude is
about that of Newfoundland, Canada.
