At 0641 UTC sunspot group #11226 produced a partially geoeffective (earth
facing) M2.5 proton solar flare. We are now experiencing yet another proton
storm >10 MeV (10+0) event, with the current one the strongest of the three.

The elevated numbers of protons increase D layer absorption of RF signals on
the lower bands such as 160, 80 and to a lesser extent 60 and 40
meters at higher latitudes. The term for this event is called polar cap
absorption (PCA).
