W4HM DISCUSSION OF DAILY SOLAR SPACE AND GEOMAGNETIC WEATHER-
For Thursday February 28, 2013

Solar activity is very low as far as the emergence of the number of new 
sunspot groups. Currently there is 1 new un-numbered sunspot group and 4 
existing numbered sunspot groups.

Solar activity is moderate as far as the number of solar flares, 6 occurred. 
The largest solar flare in magnitude was a very small in size B7.9, which 
occurred at approximately S16W26 and associated with sunspot group #11682.

The daily solar flux index (SFI) has been at or above 100 for 2 consecutive 
days, currently (NOAA) at 106.2.

The daily sunspot number (SSN) has languished below 100 for 8 consecutive 
days, currently (NOAA) at 63.

The geomagnetic field has been active for 1 day with the Kp (planetary) 
index reaching a 3, which is unsettled geomagnetic conditions. As collected 
by Potsdam Germany WDC the 3 hour Kp (planetary) intervals were 21212023. As 
collected by NOAA/SWPC the 3 hour Kp (planetary) intervals were 21212123.

However at 1200 UTC the Kp (planetary) index is a 5, which is minor 
geomagnetic storming. The source of the geomagnetic storming is a 
geo-effective (Earth facing) coronal hole, #556.

Via Kyoto U. the Dst ranged between +14 and -11.

Via SOHO and sollen.info the maximum and minimum solar wind values were 
287-340.

Via NOAA the maximum background x-ray solar flux value was B2.7.

Via NOAA the energetic proton flux was below (10+0).
