What I did was to use a good quality pair of headphones with a volume
control in the headphone lead. Radio Shack has this on sale right now for
$19, about half of the original price. I then put a "Y" connector into the
headphone jack and connect the headphone in one and a speaker in the other.
Since the speaker is generally less sensitive then the headphone you adjust
the rigs volume control for good speaker output and then adjust the
headphone volume control for easy listening.
