I am hoping that some of our readers have experience that can help me
improve my "talkability" or punch, as some would say, using various =
mikes.
I have known for some time that others talking on my rig come through
much better than I. Usually they speak much louder than me as I am
pretty soft spoken, however increasing the mike gain doesnt seem to =
help.

Recently, when my TT handheld quit keying my Omni 6+, I tried using a
"hifi" microphone into the rear connection . The result was that my =
speech
was hardly readable, very distorted, but when the TT was jumpered into=20
the rear connection, my voice returned to readable but with no "punch"

So I tape recorded my voice with the hifi microphone into the hifi =
recorder
and observed the playback with my oscilliscope. My voice has a very
strong 100 hz fundamental almost always there no matter how I try to
vary my talking. I suspect that the 100 hz is preventing increasing the
mike gain without clipping, distorting, etc and also hampers the
readability at the other end; that the TT handheld does have a somewhat
tailored response, and that mikes tailored to ones own voice would
be very beneficial--but how to determine whch one???

P.S. I like CW!

I've used on my old Corsair II, a Shure 444, and received excellant =
reports on the audio. I've also used a Heil headset with a Number 5 =
cartridge and have had no complaints about it. On my present setup =
(OMNI V) I have used the Shure 444, and both the #4 and #5 Heil =
cartridge set up. I've been told the #4 is best for DX, and the #5 best =
for local 80m ragchews.
Hope I've been of some help.
    Happy New Year..Graham...VE7ABC
