With the ability to cascade a 1.8Khz filter in the
9Mhz i.f. and a 1.8Khz filter in the 6.3Mhz i.f., you
really aren't giving up anything in terms of
selectivity by installing the 2.8Khz filter and making
component replacements in the audio signal path.
Realize however that the Omni VI+ was never intended
to be a full fidelity ssb radio, especially on
receive. You should be aware that the end product of
your efforts (and considerable expenditure) will still
be fidelity-challenged because of the notch filter
i.c. and dsp i.c. remaining in the audio signal path
at all times in the Omni VI+. You will see nowhere
near 2.8Khz receive audio bandwith. If you really
want to turn the Omni VI+ into a full fidelity 2.8Khz
true-receive-audio-bandwith radio, you will have to
bypass these i.c.'s, which is not generally advisable
except for the most diehard hifi buffs. Some
