Just turned the Omni VII on here on the desk. Antenna is a 256 ft center fed wire via balanced feed to a 4:1 balun and then direct to the input of the Omni VII. To investigate the area of concern that one writer expressed, I tuned across the BC band and the SW bands. Found a station that was 42 dB over S-9 according to the S meter. Ran the RF Gain from 100% down to 0% and back up to 100% while listening with the 20K IF filter and DSP filter at 8 KHz. No pops, ticks, or distortion was observed in the audio. AF Gain at a very comfortable but somewhat loud 35%. Stepped through all 4 AGC positions with the only noted artifact occurred when AGC was OFF. Tried it in LSB and USB with a couple of stations. Again no issues of concern.
Found a couple of weak stations in the S-4 to S-5 range with the RF Gain at 100%. Still no issues of concern. Selective fading did have the normal distorted effect on the AM signals.
