Rod,

It is impossible for an autonotch to remove a carrier or unwanted signal and
NOT distort the audio.
ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE.
This was explained accurately in an earlier post, I believe by Carl.

Now you might find one rig distorts more than another, but both distort
because they are removing part of the spectrum.

YES I KNOW YOU CAN DO THAT.  BUT IF THE JAP RADIOS AUTO NOTCH WORK AND NO

If your rig has passband tuning, and the offending signal is low in pitch,
adjust the PBT to accentuate the highs; it it is high in pitch, go the 
opposite
direction; play with your toy a little 73
