[TenTec] Orion 2 Situation

Same here in Europe.

Most of our BCC guys are still team contesting (and winning) with older
FT-1000's or TS-850s.
Our Expeditions use almost exclusively K3 transceivers and Spiderbeam
Antennas.

Privately the guys also have all kinds of other stuff, even various Orions
and older Omni VI's.
A few have TS-590s and love them, but they have incurred problems trying to
use them in multi-TX events.
I know of one guy with an IC-7700 and a couple of good contesters who had
and sold their IC-7800s.
I haven't heard of anyone using the big Yaesus, other than a couple with an
FTdx-5000.
The only guy I know who has run a Hilberling in a contest is Rob Sherwood,
while he was testing it.

Unfortunately only one other guy in my club (Bavarian Contest Club) use an
Eagle besides me.
For some reason it just hasn't caught on here. "Déjà vu"

BTW, I don't know of anyone running an SDR radio in contests either.
And if there are some, they are for sure not winning with them!

As to the first condition -- I don't consider myself an authority on the
overall quality of current ham rigs, but from a study of ARRL and Sherwood
product reviews, and conversations with guys who are both first rate
operators and very good engineers, the only radio I'd firmly put in a class
with an O2 is a loaded K3/P3. Those Yaesu/Kenwood/Icom big boats are mondo
expensive and they sure LOOK impressive, but I know VERY few top contesters
or DXers who use them, and I know some who have owned them and sold them.
