Seems like Carl said the T-mate works with his N4PY software ... maybe 
you could use it with your existing rig to see if you like it.  Not 
sure, but I would check with Carl about it.  If so, it would allow a 
test run without having to buy a 1500...  er... I think.

And you would fit in fine with the Old Farts at lunch.  They are a great 
bunch of hams and we even have a German guy, Wolfgang, so you could 
maintain your German language skills.  The guys who maintain our 17 site 
linked repeater system are super smart - you would like them, and maybe 
teach them a few tricks.
