[TenTec] New Radios in the Future

James,

It's an idea, as far as learning the Tmate2, but what I would gain is
something less than just using the Eagle.

The Eagle has only 7 knobs and a handful of buttons; very simple to use, and
doesn't take up much more room than the Tmate2, which has just 3 knobs and 4
buttons. The Eagle sits directly touching the top left corner of the
keyboard, in easy reach.

But you are right, it would be a cheap way to practice using the Tmate2, and
I already have Carl's software.

The idea is to find a way to transition to a more powerful radio than the
Eagle, yet still keep it easy.
A 6300 and Tmate2 seems currently the best solution but I'm not sure if it
is adequate from a user standpoint (with an old geezer at the controls).

Seems like Carl said the T-mate works with his N4PY software ... maybe you
could use it with your existing rig to see if you like it. Not sure, but I
would check with Carl about it. If so, it would allow a test run without
having to buy a 1500... er... I think.

And you would fit in fine with the Old Farts at lunch. They are a great
bunch of hams and we even have a German guy, Wolfgang, so you could maintain
your German language skills. The guys who maintain our 17 site linked
repeater system are super smart - you would like them, and maybe teach them
a few tricks.

Stop by anytime! I will buy the beer. ;-)

If it turns out I can't cope with this new operating method, I can cut my
losses, sell it, and join the group of old farts that James goes to lunch
with! ;-)
