FWIW, 2 years ago when I  decided to get active after a dozen years of no hamming I had the same reset issue on my NIB, never used, O2. On the advice of a very experienced electronics guy I ordered a fresh battery from China rather than shelf weary stuff. It took a couple of weeks to get here but so far it is perfect. From the comment made above it was a good (lucky) decision.Surprisingly the tuner battery was good, but I still put a fresh one in. (I almost never use it)
