Another great opening to EU last night from the West Coast between 0330
and 0500Z. First inclination that something was up; KL7ZZ running EU and
I could hear the bigger guns (SM4CAN and others) coming back to him. Hung
around for a little while and JW5NM appeared at about 569 on peaks. QSB
was about a 2-minute cycle; an eternity while you're waiting.
The rest of the opening brought DJ7AA, OH8LA, SM5EDX, LA9GX, and GM3POI,
all quite strong, in that order. Neat to watch the sunrise move across EU
on the MiniProp great-circle map while listening to the signals peak and
fade. Each station lasted about 20 minutes before the path was lost. The
exception was DJ7AA who appeared about an hour before his pre-sunrise
peak.
I was unable to break through as the Big Guns are all notching their 1997
belts and my peanut whistle will just have to wait until next time. But
it was really fun to hear all those countries in a single night! If we
can get another couple of openings like that, there will be a few more
N0AX QSLs winging their way across the pond!
Great fun!
