The dust has settled from the recently completed CQWW-CW contest,
meaning that it is about 1 month until The Boring Amateur Radio Club's
8th running of the Stew Perry TopBand DX Challenge. This year you may
pick your 14 hours out of the time span of 1500Z on Dec. 27 through
1500Z on Dec. 28, 2003. The rules and information for this competition
are at:
http://www.jzap.com/k7rat/stew.html
This contest is a CW test that utilizes distance via Grid squares
as part of the scoring mnemonic. Newbies or rusty CW OPs are encouraged
to get on for this contest as the Q's are more important than the speed
of their dits and dahs. It also is unique in that the competitors decide
which plaques are important enough to them to sponsor. The 2002 plaques
have recently been entrusted to the US Postal service and are on their
ways to the winners. The contesters that are ahead of the curve, have
already spoken and sent in their $50.00 each reserving the beautiful
2003 plaques as below:
Sponsor Category
KL7RA Top QSO Total
K1PX Top Score-Single-Op-Europe-Low Power
VK6VZ Top Score utilizing Home Brew gear (Alf
Traeger, VK5AX Memorial RFDS Cap)
There are other categories being stewed about, so don't be left
out. E-mail me and then fire off the check to sponsor what you feel is
important to emphasize about this 160M contest where men are men,
Beverages have at least 2 meanings and double digit fluxes are
fantasized about.
Start now to lay the groundwork for a vigorous contesting respite
among the hurly-burly of the Holiday/New Year time period. You will
deserve it. Remember last year?
73 and I remain,
