Yes, I too remember one of my most memorable QSO's on 160. Like VE7BS,
K1GUN and many others, I had heard these guys work Paul and wished I too
could do the same.

Well, one Christmas eve morning on December 24, 1985 my wish was granted for
some strange reason. I was sitting on 160 just listening for any chance of
a VK or ZL when all of a sudden VS6DO began CQing for USA---------Thinking
that thousands of others were going to create a pile-up that I couldn't
penetrate and would get a second chance at; I immediately answered his CQ
and seconds later Paul/VS6DO was in the log.

Yes Bob -----VE7BS I am one of those 160 NUTS who have gained Top band DXCC-
But hearing so many war stories about how the ARRL lost many operators cards
I felt it necessary to maintain those cards in my possession FOREVER (or at
least until I die) knowing I did get DXCC on top band EVEN IF MY NAME NEVER
SHOWS IN THE FILES OF HAVING DONE SO.

MANY OF THOSE CARDS were too hard to obtain and the thought of loosing them
doesn't sound that inviting or exciting.

There are two operators that I am still chasing today, to whom I have had
personal letters and correspondence with but have never QSO'd them. They
being HB9AMO/Piere` and VU2GDG/Gopal I believe Craig mentioned Gopal in his
posting a few days ago. I personally had a hand in helping Gopal get on 160
but living in Seattle, WA didn't allow for propagation in his direction at
the time I felt I needed to try.

My first experience on 160 came in 1976 during the ARRL 160 meter contest
while a novice and operating as a logger during the contest with the
Davenport, Iowa Amateur Radio Club. I was so impressed that I just had to
upgrade and get on 160. I had an old Yaesu FTDX 570 that didn't have 160,
but a kit for $50 would allow me to modify the 570 and get on.

I would really like to work those two amateurs as they were part of my
subscriber list at that time for the WEST COAST 160 Meter Bulleting" This
was the bulleting that I published after W1BB couldn't continue his efforts
and with his blessing allowed me to continue but with a name change and Stew
even supplied me with some material periodically for the bulletin. With
that; HB9AMO, VU2GDG and S9SS I would still very much like to arrange QSO's
with these fine gentlemen sometime soon.

73s all and keep the stories coming. Someone should write a new book
JEFF?????????????????????????
