Some may not like this idea, but I've found it to be of some help...
When putting the two halves of the bell rotor back together, apply a layer
of grease around the rim so that once you have all the bolts snugged down,
the grease helps to seal water out. What I found is if the rotor is not
used for quite sometime, the grease tends to warm in the summer and ooze off
the ball bearings. Water then makes its way in between the two halves of
the shell and causes the top part of the bearings to rust.
For folks in the Midwest, Lithium grease is probably okay, while further
north snowmobile grease is better. I looked for snowmobile grease last time,
but it isn't very common where I live.
