Waittasecond.  There is absolutely no "chances are" connection between
directivity and gain.  Beverages, Flags, K9AY loops, etc. all have very
good directivity, but their gain is many dB below the mythical isotropic
source.


Hams like directivity, because it is about the only thing that they can
hear, simply by turning their antenna.  But there are a lot of tribanders
out there with decent F/B ratio that probably have zero forward gain over a
dipole at the same height.
