Hi Mark!
The one place I wouldnt try something else rather than what the manufacturer 
provides is the base.   Use his base as he know what it takes.    It is the 
most critical part of your tower.   Swallow the pill and pay the price.    
When the wind howls you wont have to wonder if you did the right thing.
