[TowerTalk] Tower Manufacturers and distribution

Tower manufacturers usually use distributors/re-sellers to sell their
products. Rohn has done this for years
and finally Tri-EX and US Tower have gone the same route. Selling and
manufacturing at the same time sounds
do able but in practice the customer service issues loom as the major
drawback. We amateurs expect top dollar
service after the sale, but the margins are so thin that this is not always
practical. I still think Ten-Tec and Mosley
would sell more if they went back to the dealer/distributor route. On
selling to Commercial and Government (if the firm
does this) then selling directly many still be profitable. But in dealing
with our hobby the distractions and cries of poor or even no support
outweight the slight difference in profits (yes they must make a profit).

Thus US Tower sells through HRO and AES and Tri-EX sells through First Call.
This is not the first time Tri-EX has used a reseller.
About 15 or 20 years ago W2ONV was the reseller. Hopefully First Call
will sell, install (optional expense), and support Tri-EX. First Call
did appoint representatives across the USA (maybe elsewhere)....I for one
hope this works out.
