Tom,

I prefer to think of 1 WL Quad loops as two 1/2 Wave Length dipoles
stacked 1/4 WL apart with the ends folded towards each other 
resulting in a square loop that is 1/4 WL on each side.

Using this imagery, it is much easier to visualize the current
distributions.  While your description of 1/4 WL dipoles, end
loaded, is also accurate, I don't think most people relate well 
to the concept of 1/4 WL dipoles.
