    Hold on there, Pilgrim - you've got apples and oranges going on here. 
Ship rigging is a REAL different application than crank-up tower cables; I'm 
sure the ship rigging needs to be protected/coated from saltwater corrosion 
where you'd actually WANT to have a covering of grease and is inspected/PM'ed 
much more often than the attention amateurs give their crank-up cables. If 
you've got a ship, feel free to use the above recipe. If you've got a 
crank-up tower, use the approved cable lubricant for that application.
