Noll, W9RN. A picture of my version of N4KG's 40/30 dipoles can be seen
at:

http://members.aol.com/jrivamonte/antenna.htm

Shorting the end elements to boom works and has no effect on the XA. It's
a
trial and error drill with the short Omega match rod on the 40M side -
they
were both the same length initially. My Autek reads as follows:
7.0 1.5:1 10.1 1.5:1
7.5 1.4:1 10.15 1.7:1
7.10 1.7:1
7.2 1.9:1
7.3 2.4:1

Final Omega capacitors are made from RG 214 cut to min R then to min SWR.

Works great after lots of trips up the tower ( ball parking C's with
variable
capacitors then RG 58 prototypes ) and lots of little pieces of coax on
the
ground just as N4KG suggests - Hi. vy 73's. Joe W4UP
