I forgot to add that it's important to de-burr the rivet holes after 
drilling before riveting. Tiny burrs and drill shavings around the holes 
will prevent the joints from drawing tight. They will eventually become 
flattened over time as the mating surfaces squeeze on them, making the rivet 
loose again.
Also be sure that the length of the rivet is greater than the thickness of 
the surfaces to be joined by at lease one rivet diameter. This is the 
portion of the rivet that swells up and provides the 'draw'.
