N4CW opined that wrapping electrical tape over hose clamps doesn't work
too well.

I recently acquired an old Cushcraft 402CD that had been up for many years.
The plated hardware was totally rusted solid. However, the original owner
had wrapped all of the joints and hose clamps with electrical tape. Even
though no anti-oxident was used originally, the tubing looked brand new
inside the joints, and the hose clamps were in perfect shape, too. Note
that the hose clamps supplied did not have stainless steel screws, yet
the electrical tape kept thing very shiny in this 15 year old antenna
(originally in Columbus OH).

Needless to say, I was very impressed by the performance of the electrical
tape and, after beefing up the elements with internal reinforcements, have
used liberal amounts of electrical tape again.
