The 2800 DC version needs only 4 wires. Pin 1 and 2 heavy for the DC motor
 it reverses by reversing the polarity). Pin 6 and 7 light gauge for the
reed switch.

The older AC units had 3 wires because there was a left and right winding,
and a common.
The typo was probably a missed edit on the upgrade. My instructions are
quite early and are very clear and correct. You may have got a reprint or
something.
