I've rarely (if ever) seen a true LP opening to Europe or
the Mideast from either Ga or Ohio in the early morning. My
beams always point shortpath or skewed SP to the NE or NNE.

I can work UA3 and other eastern Europe Russians easily at
my sunrise beaming NE in the fall, spring, or winter.
Perhaps 2000-3000 miles are daylight but the rest of the
path is in darkness.

It isn't unusual to be running Asians like JA's, UA0's, and
even a few VU's in the morning only to hear a few weak
signals calling and  when I go east of north (short path)
work a bunch of Europeans. Same on 80 for stations in
northern Europe where it is dark or nearly dark over most of
the short path during winter.

LP to Europe would be generally SW. I can't ever recall
doing that on 40 or 80.
