Maybe more of the mech eng types could ring in on this one but with
quite small deflections as generated by wire tension gauges I would
expect the variations in readings from SS sailboat rigging to EHS to be
minimal and as Grant said for relative measurements used to equalize
tension the absolute value of the reading is not important only the
variation from one wire to the next.
I have seen but never owned a tension gauge and have tuned plenty of
sailboat rigs using an eyeball up the mast and a personally
"calibrated" archery type tug on the cables at equal distant positions.
I never had to deal with jumper struts or wires with their lower ends
terminated aloft.
As a more cautious "senior" the cost of a tension gauge vs the cost of
disaster would drive me to getting my hands on a gauge irrespective of
the number of installations reported to have survived for centuries of
major storms after being calibrated by the integration of intuition,
Ouija board sessions, and responses from the "Magic 8 Ball."
