Hi

I wonder if any body on the reflector has had any experience in using the
heil pro headset and the FT1000mp mkV probably responds the same as the
ft1000mp.

I have a proset with a HC5 insert and cannot get the audio to sound anything
approaching acceptable, I had previously tried a hc4 insert and that was
even worse. It is OKish with the processor off, but the processor on and
5-10% compression and it starts to sound very harsh and almost distorting
and is not as easy to copy even under contest environment. The desk mic is
far better with more punch and better clarity.

I am also having great difficulty getting a MFJ 434 voice keyer to sound OK
it has a very high level of background noise on the recordings and then
similar audio problems to the proset. I have tried various things (internal
and external mics and proset) the drive levels are set correctly but still I
get better much better results using voice keyer using the computer
soundcard.

I believe in both circumstances it is driving the rig with a restricted
audio rather than full audio without the highs and lows attenuated.

Set-up is

md200 desk mic
edsp on
tx audio (menu 4-4) set to 4
	   (menu 7-7) set 150-3100

I have also tried setting edisp off completely and still no good. I hope I
can benefit from other people on the reflectors experience so I can getting
good sounding audio for use in contests. I have not yet used either item in
contests due to these problems, preferring to use desk mic and computer
voice keyer, both of which are a bit clumsy to use.
