My settings here are,
1000mp + HC4
(menu 4-4) set to OFF
(menu 7-7) SSB-R 300-2800 and SSB-T set OFF
To alter the tonal qualities I shift the carrier centres in menu 8-9,
t-ssbcar and Proc-ssb

Although I pretty much go for a harshish sound.
I prefer to run the TX without DSP and then tailor the tonal qualities
before it reaches the radio it sounds more natural to me.
One of the main features I like about the 1000mp is that it's possible to
switch of dsp for tx but still use it on rx (menu 7-7), a feature many dsp
radios don't have and one that I prefer.

Audio is a very personal thing., I would suggest you set it up to your own
ears either via a second RX or via the internet, that way you'll be
confident it's at a level and a style 'YOU' like.
If you let a rag-chewer on 40 do it, you'll more than likely come away
sounding like your heads down the toilet!
A neat way to check you own audio out is to connect to one of the many live
internet short-wave RX's round the world tune to the freq your using and
make a brief .wav recording whilst your running a pileup or in qso. It gives
a good indication how you sound in comparison to the many different types of
audio you get from your callers.
