With all my antenna tribulations extant, and the shack looking
like a Dahli study in RG8, I decided to enter in chill out mode
to see if I could get any nearer the bottom of the table than
the top, without cheating by failing to transmit. This strategy
was not entirely successful, and I may now modify it to see if I
can hit the middle of the table next time!

39 QSOs =390 points

Tx variously 100 watts and 400 watts

Antenna variously 212ft inverted vee doublet at 30 ft, Butternut
HF9V

Not needing to scorch the earth this time, it was nice to smell
the flowers on the way through. In particular it was interesting
to observe the various attributes of the antennas. I would not
normally consider using the vertical for inter G working, but it
was clear that any station at 100 miles or more was a candidate
for the vertical, and at more than 150 miles, it was invariably
better. For the GMs, it was no contest, and the vertical was
substantially better. As the clock ticked on, this phenomenon
was, if anything re-inforced, and it was also clear that signals
on the vertical were much steadier than on the horizontal. What
all this means in terms of propagation is not clear to my meagre
brain.

Now , can I get the antennas going for WAE next weekend? Jury's
still out on that one.
