[UK-CONTEST] Split Frequency in Contests?

The objective is to work stations. So long as split isn't disallowed, I see
no harm, as it certainly maximises the objective. It deals with the pile-up
problem in a very efficient way. There will always be signals which spread,
whether intentionally, or otherwise. In fact, when I was crowded out by one
of these split pile-ups, I think I was quite philosphical about it, and just
moved. More philosphical than I am when they jump on top of me!

I did give consideration to working split as the pileups were quite thick
(after being spotted especially) but felt it wasn't "really" fair
particularly on 40m where in contests the band is like a one lane motorway.

It wasn't helped by the fact that my antenna was not directional (next year
phased verticals, as I live about 250ft from the sea):-)

Surly working split is a little like driving a racing car which is 2 or 3
times wider than any other. (sri folks it's the only analogy I can think of
at this time of day!)

I would favour not permitting it - but how to legislate it? Maybe time a
survey on contesting.com

Having said all this is was enjoyable for the few hours (about 10 sleepy
hours)I got on

SOSB 40m
437 Q's
75 Cty
18 Z
64263 points

PS GU activity was at an all time high (GU4's CHY,EON,YOX GU3MBS, GU0SUP,
MU0FAL and MU5X (G4TSH))
