Andy, missed you because I didn't stick around the QRS Corral long enough!
There is a strange phenomenon, I'm not sure if it is part of the British
disease of kicking yourself when you are down or whether it occurs elsewhere
in the world. I was listening to a QRS QSO on my sub rx in between CQing on
my 3527 Run freq. I had lined up this G3 guy. He really made a meal of the
QSO :
Him: Call x 2, ge, ur rst 599 022, 599 022 (all in full), ar k.
Other Guy responded similarly
Him : tnx, 73, dit, dit
OG : dit, dit
Then NOTHING. I held back so as not to surprise him, someone sent ?, the G3
then eventually CQed, I called him at slowish speed and managed a QSO which
took up over 2 minutes. I then zipped down to 3520, did a quick sweep in the
last 4 minutes and worked 4 stations! I have no problem with people using
slow speed but why make it worse. Call once, 5NN (T)22 then TU G3K** is all
you need at any speed even 2 wpm.
There seems to be an analogy with QRP on this one, in that quite often (not
all, I hasten to add!) QRP stations will also use very inefficient antennas
as well. If I needed/wanted to use QRP and was spacially-challenged, I would
certainly make sure the antenna was super-efficient. It was refreshing to
see Don G3BJ a couple of years back winning the QRP contest, using an 80m
dipole at about 90ft and a 2 el 40m beam, and I think a Titanex. Now that's
the way to do QRP!

People seemed to be reluctant to come and work me up in the QRS area for the
first hour, and then when you all got desperate it got quite busy :-)
Cheers
Andy
