[UK-CONTEST] Too many contests.

At the present time there are 160 IARU Member Societies all of whom have
a right to run contests of some format. Admittedly the likelihood of
this happening is very remote but the CQ organisation more than makes up
for that. Now try to suggest to a national society that they shouldn't
run a national contest! We've been there and done that at IARU level.
While we at RSGB level are looking at reducing contests due to lack of
activity the competitive element in some of the newer societies,
particularly in the Balkans, is very intense. It is a completely
different culture.
While the Region 1 HF Contest Sub-Group was disbanded at the Davos
Conference this was not due to lack of interest but rather due to lack
of on-going work. Everyone seems happy with the current arrangements
apart from the problems of "dynamic bandplanning" during the CQ
Worldwide Contests. This was discussed yet again but the fact remains
that the CQ Magazine is a business organisation that refuses to listen,
especially to ARRL.

It is just that over the last few years they seem to have escalated to a point where it just seems like overkill. We have contests running every weekend. Though some of you deny this!
