Firstly I didn't try at all in the sprint. Although an interesting
idea I can never be competitive in this event on QRP where I have to
do search and pounce. But I may be wrong, having never tried it. One
feature of these 'minority' contests I like is for band slot chasing,
and in this one you only have one shot of calling a station before he
QSYs!

Anyway, coming back to the melee last night, and I was listening (in
between QSYing between 30m, 17m and 500kHz to get away from it...).
The WSEM contests are a particular instance of a domestic contest
which takes over large parts of the bands, appears from nowhere, and
is a restricted contest in that us non Russians cannot join in. There
are of course other contests like this, for instance the PACC contest
where you can only work PA's but have no propagation to there on 20m
and above and just hear the rest of Europe....

WSEM is problematic in that they don't publish their rules in English
and don't publicise their events in the mainstream contest calendars.
I did find their site once, and Google offered a rather amusing (and
not very helpful) translation. We really need to talk to the
organisers via our Russian friends and discuss the situation and get
them to fit in with other activities going on on the bands. It is not
just contesters who get upset, for instance at the moment there are
several DXpeditions going on and they have to fit in with everybody
else. And there are those who can't have their Saturday evening chat
with Joe down the road....

Any Russian speakers among us??
