I totally agree with you, Justin.
I am sure in your time as Chair of HFCC, you had the same battles with
Radcom as previous chairs - myself, Dave G4BUO, the late G6LX and Dennis
G3MXJ (now F5VHY). I recall several meetings with Council that I
attended fighting and winning our corner to retain the full listing.
Doesn't it make you feel that the time you gave voluntarily was a total
waste?
What really saddens me is that :
*** The RSGB SPONSOR CONTESTS ***
*** AWARDS TROPHIES ***
*** PRESENTED BY THE PRESIDENT ***
yet treats contesting with disdain in Radcom. Contesting has a tradition
within the RSGB, but also provides valuable motivation and self-training
in numerous skills.
With regard to the appalling results page in the May issue, WHY doesn't
the editor confer with those more experienced and take their advice?
Publishing top 5, 10 or 20 never has and never will be acceptable. Every
entrant in RSGB sponsored contests (RSGB Members????) is entitled to see
their callsign listed in the official journal of the Radio society of
Great Britain. Even more so for those lower down the field who need the
encouragement. This kind of attitude belittles their efforts.
Just a few other observations :
- Why a full page devoted to ATV? (Google search editor's callsign for
a possible answer)
- Would a 90 minute activity session on ATV attract over 200 UK stations?
- So, how many active and motivated ATVers do we have in the UK?
- Is their annual convention as busy, buzzing and well attended as the
HF Convention?
and if my written communication skills are still reasonable :
- Page 7 - " ... the most to date news ..."
- Ditto - " ... trails (???)
- Page 88 - 2C2UT (??) Novice + 2 ? Maybe I am not "to date" on UK
callsigns.
