Just to lighten the note here...

Maybe with some adaptation, this could be a useful device for XYLs to summon 
the OM from the shack at mealtimes, when the food is on the table :>)  

I don't think my parents would have resorted to this, but I'm sure they got 
fed up with trudging to the garden shed, to prise *me* away from the radios 
hi!!  Of course, they always had the last resort of the Big Switch :>)
