Interesting, lots of factors come into play. Activity breeds
activity... a few loud signals around the band mean that the causal
tuner will be motivated to stay on the band for longer and make more
QSOs. If the /Ps are not about, the band can seem empty, or not
sufficiently interesting and the causal participant goes away and does
something more interesting.

Possibly. But how many individual group members have a capable station
at home to use instead? I certainly don't!
