Yes Neil.

I did use the Open section stats. I would guess that the other sections  
will show similar trends in respect of QSO numbers but I have not done  
that analysis. The downward trend in entries for these larger contests is  
perhaps a bit of a vicious circle as people inevitably find it rather  
boring making less than 10 QSOs per hour (unless they have be raised on  
BERU of course). Maybe the larger VHF contests would be more attractive  
with an enforced break in the middle? They are supposed to be fun after  
all!

Incidentally even the flagship 2m UKAC contests are often dire in the last  
half hour (and that from a good site) and the other band activity-contests  
are much slower.

I have often wondered if the trend towards several sections in these  
contests is helpful overall? I would favour a trial of a handicap system  
sometime.
