The tent has survived night number one exposed to a near northerly gale
perched on the outcrop. Rain is currently torrential and the chosen site is
rapidly filling with water, may need to shift the tent when the storm
passes. It was so much easier sitting in the warm cottage last year with hot
and cold running water and meals on demand. At least there is plenty of
cold water up here so should not go thirsty.
Antenna construction went well yesterday. 18m SpiderPole ready to go up
with the full sized 80m vertical and elevated radials (Glad I left it on the
ground last night). The 10m mast is fitted with the D3 rotatable dipole,
again ready to go up when the rain clears and the wind dies down. They are
about 60m apart so the 80/40m dipole will be hoisted up between them. The
12m SpiderPole carries the 40 and 20m verticals with elevated radials and
has survived so far. If there is time I will put the Hustler 4BTV together
just in case the other antennas come down. It is a good solid standby
antenna, as GM4AFF found out last year up in the Shetlands!
Anchoring the guys in the wet peat is difficult and they are tending to pull
out under tension.
Forecast is for an improving situation through Saturday then wind veering to
the SE and more high winds forecast for early Sunday morning....may just do
the 12 hour section this year, so get EU92 in the log early!!

Will be in holiday mode until tomorrow evening then it's all systems go in
preparing for the IOTA contest. Not quite the setup I was hoping for as
will be without my microHAM MK2R and IC7400 due to technical problems,
they're duff !
However as compensation my new site is up on one of the highest points of
the island with clear views in most directions.
As long as the tent doesn't blow away (very stiff breeze forecast) you
should be able to find MM0Q CQing away somewhere on the bands. Very happy
to QSY during the wee small hours as it may be very quiet once again during
the night.
Have fun and enjoy what is probably the best contest in the world!
