We had two ops - G4BVH and myself operating in the restricted section this
year. The weather forecast before the weekend was looking pretty awful, but
we were lucky as we managed to set up and clear down in the dry, but there
was a strong, cold Easterly wind blowing most of the weekend. It is
difficult to believe that the previous weekend temps were in the high 20's
Celsius!
One small problem with the ATU on 80m lost us 18 minutes, and some RF noise
from the laptop PC's and PSU's caused some receiver problems on the HF
bands, but otherwise no other mishaps. (Does anyone know of a make/model of
an older style laptop (ones with comms and printer ports) that are
relatively quiet RF-wise?)
The overnight deluge of wind and rain helped to keep us awake during the wee
small hours.
During the event, I noticed some impressively high serial numbers being sent
out (GM3POI and GD0EMG spring to mind) but fortunately for us, these guys
were in the Open section. Overall, NFD was good fun and the planning for
next year starts in earnest in approx six months time.......
The QSO stats from us for this year are
160/156
80 /176
40 /303
20 /265
15 /125
10 /106
Total QSO's = 1131
Radio = FT1000MP
Aerial = 265ft Doublet at 11m + home brew ATU
