Nice to see you pop in here Dez, will mail you offlist to catch up with things.
So far as your comment goes, well you really have to see what I use for 80m. It is a nominal 1/4 wave piece of wire fed from coax taken to the top of the mast at about 45'agl with the braid screwed to the mast. I can get an approx 45deg angle by parking my car across the street and tying on to the car roofrack and hoping that the dustcart or cement lorries do not make an unscheduled visit! I do live in a cul-de-sac else i could not risk even that and it has to be rolled out by night and back in again by day.
It really struggles to reach uk, the main problem is that I can't get any grounding, everything is concrete and even the water pipes are plastic.
When I said 'probably 40mtrs too' I confess I have made one or two lp contacts at those times when the band was not busy, when there is competition I don't get anywhere.. I was really thinking about WW when the band is very busy and I would not be on that band at that time as the higher bands are more productive for me at that time. My 40m dipole is not a competetive antenna by any means but does pick up useful dark time mults around eu and asia, so it was working west to usa at times I would be on the band I was thinking about, even then it does not do very well to east coast usa.
Anyway enough of this nitty gritty I'm sure that my general point is understood even though all may not agree that this development is undesirable.
