As this is looking like a cross group posting I will send to all groups.

A couple of years ago I was expecting a parcel being sent through Royal Mail almost a month before Christmas. It was only a cd for mum that was sent as a small packet rather than a parcel. I knew the date it had been despatched as the company I was buying from advised me on this on the day of posting, which as I say it was around a month before Christmas. 2 weeks later from despatch date there was no parcel, but as I worked at the time for a well known courier I was friends with the posties and Parcel Force lads on my round, so I asked them about this delay.

They advised me that at the Coventry airport depot they had 3 40ft trailers full of small packets, parcels, and various other items that were not going to be delivered due to the lack of staff. So I put in a formal complaint to Royal Mail and within 3 days the package was wth me, and within 1 week 2 of the 3 trailers had been emptied and the last one delivered before Christmas. It had to be sorted by managers from around the area, with some of them working almost 24 hours to deliver them as well as sort.

So a complaint to the right people will get action. But what we now have to look forward to with Royal Mail is our mail being delivered at 4pm in the after noon, as opposed to early morning as it used to be. But the media are not reporting on this, they are saying the posties are turning down a £2500.00 bonus and pay rise and will be going out on strike again for more money. If any of yu do see your local postman ask him what his new hours will be in a couple of months, and would he rather start at silly O'clock in the morning and be done by lunchtime so us, the general public, can have our mail at a time when we can act upon the bill that needs paying, an appointment we need to change, etc.

As for mail being opened it is a criminal offence as it is an act against the crown - Royal Mail is still a government owned company - and is almost as bad as what Ronnie Biggs and his boys did! Go to the Royal Mail website and have a look on there for details.

This does look like I am bashing Royal Mail, but as a service I think we get good value as I know I couldn't deliver a QSL card to the other side of the world for less than a pound any other way.

Cheers and beers.

Hello Roger,

The 'problem' has been complained about for the past 3 years and each
time we have been fobbed off with promises that it would be looked
into and something would be done, it hasn't.

At the same sorting office one of our daughters friends applied for a
student job over the Christmas period. On the first day he was there
they opened up the overflow area in the office that hadn't been used
since the year before, he told us there were several baskets of mail
that hadn't been delivered the previous year. He spent his first
morning at work dumping the old mail into a skip!

I have to say that absolutely nothing of any importance gets sent from
this house by Royal Mail anymore.
