I wouldn't use it for butt-welding tube (for example) because the heat 
can weaken the parent metal, but it's good for many other applications.  
I've used it for seam-"welding" sheet ali for a beehive roof.  Also see 
how many have been sold to satisfied customers from the eBay pages.
